National Gumboot Chucking Championships

The National Gumboot Chucking Championships are held annually during the occasion of the Plett Country Fair which is held every year in the month of July at The Yard, a country venue situated in the beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay, in the Western Cape of South Africa.

Gumboot Chucking is a lively sport that originated in Britain. Competitors are required to hurl a gumboot as far as possible within the boundary lines of the competition field and area known as "The Thong" from a standing or short running start.

A relatively new sport in South Africa with the first National Championship being held in 2015. It is fast gaining interest and an avid following as a new exciting sport in South Africa.

The next gumboot chucking championship takes place in July 2017, at The Yard. The Yard is a country venue that hosts the annual Plett Country Fair in the oh so beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay. This town is referred to affectionately by South Africans simply as "Plett". The Plett Country Fair takes place during the Winter school holidays in South Africa.

The Championships are meant to be a competitive yet friendly affair where people gather in this exciting annual challenge and sport to see who can chuck a gumboot the furthest.

The winners of this competition are awarded a "Golden Gumboot Trophy" which is theirs keep.
